The Church of Saint Nicholas in Holostřevy is a single-nave rectangular stone building. A narrower polygonal presbytery with buttresses and tall traceried windows is separated from the nave by a high semicircular triumphal arch, and a Baroque sacristy with a cross vault adjoins it on the north. A flat ceiling covers the nave, and a prismatic tower with a stair annex stands against the west front.

The church was built in the early 13th century in Romanesque style; about two thirds of the perimeter masonry of the eastern part of the nave and a narrow window on its south side survive from that phase. In the second half of the 14th century a Gothic rebuilding added a polygonal presbytery with ribbed cross vaulting, buttresses, a triumphal arch, pointed windows with late Gothic tracery and sedile. In 1740–1741 the nave was extended westward with broad Gothicising windows, and a square tower with a circular staircase and a sacristy were added.

The church is named after Saint Nicholas, patron saint of merchants and sailors, a common dedication in Bohemian villages. The Gothic wall paintings in the presbytery and the surviving exterior figurative painting on the tower wall are the work of medieval artists; their presence shows how religious instruction and decoration were combined in this rural church.

The church stands in the village of Holostřevy near Bor, within a walled former cemetery entered through a gate at the northwest corner. The Baroque parish house built under Abbot Josef Sieber of Kladruby stands close by. The tower roof was repaired in 2009 after years of decay, so check locally before planning to see the interior.

On the exterior wall survives a medieval Gothic figurative painting, easy to miss without looking up. The church also keeps about two thirds of the perimeter masonry of the eastern part of the nave from the early 13th century, plus a narrow window on the south side of the nave.
