Walter

Walter is a former manufacturing complex in Jinonice with multiple buildings from the early 20th century. The structures display typical industrial-era architecture with large windows and functional designs that supported factory operations.

Josef Walter founded the workshop in 1913 as a bicycle repair shop and later expanded it into a major producer of motorcycles and aircraft engines. The operation shaped Prague's industrial development for decades.

The factory demonstrates how Prague developed into an industrial center during the 20th century. Today, visitors can see how the site blends its manufacturing heritage with contemporary residential and office spaces.

The site is being transformed into a mixed-use district called Waltrovka with housing and office spaces. The area is near Prague metro line B, making it easily accessible from the city center.

The main factory building is intentionally preserved and integrated into the new development while keeping its original character. This blend of industrial heritage with modern residential areas shows how historical sites are repurposed today.
