Sedlice Castle, Renaissance château in Sedlice u Blatné, Czech Republic

Sedlice Castle is a Renaissance structure with a rectangular layout and enclosed courtyard in South Bohemia. Symmetrical facades and Renaissance architectural details frame the doorways and windows of the complex.

The Gothic fortress at Sedlice was probably founded in the second half of the 15th century; Karel Tříska names Mikuláš Malovec of Pacov, owner of the village in 1505–1533, as a likely founder. In 1539 Sedlice was raised to town status and sold with the fortress to Adam Řepický of Sudoměř, then mortgaged in 1543 and 1545 before passing through a dowry to Zdeněk of Šternberk. The Šternberks rebuilt it in Renaissance style in the late 16th century, and Václav Vojtěch of Šternberk had it converted into a Baroque château after taking over the estate in 1676. The Hořín branch of the Lobkowicz family held it until 1945, after which a collective farm used the grounds.

The Šternberk family held Sedlice from the 16th century until the early 18th century, and their coat of arms survives on the courtyard gate. A 1577 inventory records a moat with a fountain, a water moat, a spiral staircase and rooms opening onto a gallery. The Lobkowicz family, Hořín branch, owned the estate until 1945, after which a collective farm used the grounds.

The castle area lies on the southern edge of Sedlice, southeast of Blatná in the Strakonice district. The grounds include a walled courtyard with a gate, a small inner yard and farm buildings; the gate with the Šternberk coat of arms is the surviving Baroque element to look for. The site is a protected cultural monument and the interiors are not run as a museum, so visits are best treated as an exterior look from the courtyard and street.

The moats were filled in during the 18th century, and their last traces disappeared only when the farm buildings were altered in the 20th century. A 1577 description records a moat with a fountain, a water moat, a spiral staircase and rooms reached from a gallery.
