Church of Saint Peter, Romanesque church in Poříčí nad Sázavou, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Peter is a single-nave Romanesque church with a square tower, built of ashlar blocks. The tower has two rows of paired windows and holds two bells, from 1507 and 1599. The apse keeps its original window, while one nave window was widened in the Baroque period; inside, the nave has a flat ceiling and a vaulted tribune.

The church was built at the beginning of or around the middle of the 12th century, making it one of the notable Romanesque monuments in the Czech Republic. Its south portal was walled up in 1677 and a new entrance was made on the west side of the tower. The baroque furnishings date from the second half of the 17th century.

The church is a filial church of the Roman Catholic parish in Poříčí nad Sázavou, so it is not served by a religious order. Its name is sometimes given as the Church of Saint Peter and Paul. The cemetery around it includes the grave of Márinka, mother of Vašek Karas, used in a scene of the TV series Cirkus Humberto.

The site is accessible via local roads and easy to reach. The church can be viewed from outside, and visitors should check local opening times.
