Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary in Sepekov, Pilgrimage church in Sepekov, Czech Republic

The Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary in Sepekov is a central single-nave Baroque building on an oval plan, with a rectangular presbytery and a prismatic tower on the west side. The nave interior is elliptical, measuring 14.5 m by 12 m. It has three entrances, and the tower above the main entrance originally held a clock made by a Milevsko clockmaker in 1749.

The Baroque pilgrimage church was built in 1730–1733 by architect Tomáš Haffenecker on the site of a chapel linked by legend to Abbot Jarloch and documented from the 14th century. The foundation stone was laid in 1730, and on 26 September 1733 the miraculous image was transferred here from St Nicholas Church; the new church was consecrated the next day by auxiliary bishop Jan Rudolf Sporck. The ambits with corner chapels were added from 1760 and completed in 1767 under Abbot František Michael Daller.

The church keeps the wooden panel painting of the Virgin Mary of Sepekov, a work from the early 16th century painted on elm or maple, 1.19 m tall and 30 cm wide, showing Mary in a golden robe holding the Child Jesus on a crescent moon. The side altars are dedicated to the Fourteen Holy Helpers and Saint Ludmila, and the carved pews bear the coat of arms of Colonel Dessewfy, who donated them.

The church stands on raised ground above the village, reached by a stairway from the former rectory built in 1773. The oval nave measures 14.5 by 12 metres, with a three-storey tower over the main entrance and three doorways. A cloister with corner chapels, begun in 1760 and finished in 1767, surrounds the church; the Stations of the Cross inside date from 1805.

The church is sometimes called the South Bohemian Svatá Hora because its design recalls the pilgrimage church at Příbram. Its oval nave measures 14.5 by 12 metres, and the first tower clock was made by a Milevsko clockmaker in 1749.
