Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is a Baroque place of worship in Slavonice with two distinct steeples and decorative exterior elements. Inside, the space features a main nave with modest but carefully crafted details that reflect early 18th-century design principles.

The building originated in the 1640s and was substantially rebuilt in the 1730s to achieve its current Baroque form. This renovation transformed it into the structure visitors see today under the direction of skilled architectural designers.

Saint John of Nepomuk, the patron of bridges and water, is honored throughout this chapel with imagery and devotional spaces. Local people and pilgrims visit to pay respects to this Czech saint, whose story remains woven into regional faith and identity.

The main prayer space is open to visitors during regular hours and allows a clear view of the interior arrangement. For access to other areas, it helps to check beforehand or coordinate with the staff on-site.

Notably absent from the interior is any painted ceiling, which is unusual for Baroque design. This simplification came about due to limited funds during the building phase in the 1730s.
