Church of Saint Ambrose

The Church of Saint Ambrose is a Baroque building perched on a hill in Přeštice, topped by two towers crowned with distinctive domes. The white facade and decorated interior with paintings and altars create the main spaces visitors encounter.

Construction began in the middle of the 18th century, replacing an earlier Gothic structure that stood on the same location. A prominent architect directed the project and created a new Baroque church for the town.

The church serves as a focal point for the community during important religious occasions and celebrations. Its ornate Baroque style draws the eye with curved lines and decorative details that are visible throughout the interior and exterior.

The building is usually open to visitors when no services are taking place, though it's wise to check access beforehand. Entering requires respect for its religious purpose and appropriate dress is expected.

The two towers received their domes only about 30 years ago, after they had been missing for decades. This restoration brought the church back to how it was originally designed before damage altered its appearance.
