Church of Saints Peter and Paul, Catholic church in Prachatice II, Czech Republic.

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul stands by the cemetery between Prachatice and Staré Prachatice. It is a single-nave early Gothic building with a rectangular presbytery, a sacristy on the north side, a tower set off-axis in the west facade, and a porch with a Renaissance stepped gable on the north side of the nave. A walled-up semicircular portal remains on the south side.

The church was probably built in Romanesque style in the 11th or 12th century, likely by the Vyšehrad chapter, making it older than Prachatice itself. It was enlarged in the 13th century, and the porch and tower were added in the 16th century. Baroque alterations followed in 1687, 1753 and 1771, and the tower's pyramid roof dates from 1890. The cemetery, founded before 1562, became the town's burial ground in 1587.

The church is the cemetery church of Prachatice, and the town's pilgrimage is held on the feast of Saints Peter and Paul rather than on Saint James, patron of the parish church in town. Along one wall of the nave stand about twenty tombstones of Prachatice burghers and owners of the Běleč fortress, probably donors to repairs. A local legend says Saint Adalbert consecrated the church on a journey to Rome.

The church stands by the cemetery between Prachatice and Staré Prachatice, outside the town walls, so it is reached on foot or by a short drive from the centre. It now serves only as a funeral hall, so access depends on ceremonies rather than regular visiting hours. Look for the walled-up semicircular portal on the south side of the nave and the Renaissance stepped gable of the north porch.

Two bells in the tower, cast in 1496 and 1665, were declared cultural monuments in 2011; a third bell was acquired in 2008. Along one nave wall stand about twenty tombstones of Prachatice burghers and owners of the Běleč fortress, probably donors who paid for repairs. On the tower's walls are inscriptions and figures drawn in red chalk from the late 16th and 17th centuries.
