Sady Svatopluka Čecha, Urban park in Vinohrady, Czech Republic
Sady Svatopluka Čecha is an urban park of approximately 2.3 hectares (5.7 acres) located in Vinohrady with walking paths, water fountains, and a shallow wading pool. The grounds are bounded by Vinohradská, Šumavská, Slezská, and U Vodárny streets, offering children's playgrounds and accessible pathways throughout the space.
The park was established in 1893 on the grounds of the former Nigrinka estate and was initially called Rose Gardens. It received its current name in 1903 to honour the Czech writer after whom it is now named.
A bronze statue of poet Svatopluk Čech by sculptor Jan Štursa stands in the western section and serves as a gathering point for visitors. The monument reflects the Czech literary tradition and connects the park's name to a celebrated author from the region's past.
The park remains open throughout the year and is accessible in all seasons with well-maintained pathways. Drinking fountains and children's playgrounds are available, making it comfortable for families and those seeking a relaxing walk.
More than 50 different tree species thrive in the park, including large-leaved lindens, Japanese pagoda trees, and a notable red-leaved European beech. This diverse vegetation creates distinct atmospheres throughout the grounds and changes appearance with the seasons.
