Pojišťovna Praha, Art Nouveau administrative building in Old Town, Czech Republic.
Pojišťovna Praha is an Art Nouveau building on Národní Street featuring three bay windows connected by a decorative balcony and topped with a gabled roof. Its interior houses bookstores, a sales gallery, administrative offices, and a courtyard theater that remains active today.
The building was constructed between 1906 and 1907, replacing a residential structure that stood previously on this site. It served as the headquarters for the Praha insurance company and remains a landmark of early modern architecture.
The Viola Theater in the courtyard has served as a venue for contemporary performances since its opening, drawing audiences for various theatrical productions. This partnership between the building and the theater defines the cultural character of the site today.
The building sits on Národní Street in the Old Town and is easily accessible on foot with multiple levels to explore. Budget time to visit the interior spaces including the bookstores and courtyard theater area, which invite lingering.
The facade features a colorful mosaic spelling 'PRAHA' above five mezzanine windows, a detail many visitors overlook on first glance. This playful element combines with allegorical glass reliefs depicting insurance themes to give the facade a storytelling quality.
