Socha svatého Floriána, Baroque statue in Opočno, Czech Republic

The statue of Saint Florian stands on Trčkovo Square in Opočno, near the primary school building. Carved from reddish-brown sandstone by Ignác Rohrbach of Chrudim, it shows the saint at more than life size, wearing a helmet and a partly opened cloak, kneeling among small angels who are putting out a fire. He holds the shaft of a banner in his left hand at head height. The three-sided pedestal bears reliefs of the Colloredo-Waldsee and Starhemberg coats of arms and Latin inscriptions, and a balustrade surrounds the whole work.

The statue was commissioned by Count Rudolf Colloredo-Waldsee after a large fire damaged part of Opočno. It is dated by a chronogram to 1734 and was carved by the Chrudim sculptor and woodcarver Ignác Rohrbach, documented in archival sources, at a cost of 150 guilders.
