Chapel of Saint Procopius

The Chapel of Saint Procopius is a stone structure with a rectangular plan and a square tower anchoring its western end. A smaller tower rises above the choir area, emphasizing the building's vertical lines and making it visible across the valley.

The foundation stone was laid in 1724, replacing an earlier wooden bell tower that had served the settlement since the 16th century. This shift from wood to stone reflected the growing stability and importance of the mining community.

The name honors a patron saint of miners, reflecting the settlement's origins as a mining community. Inside, classical and rococo elements sit side by side, showing how different generations added their own spiritual expressions to this space.

The chapel sits on gently elevated ground and is best reached on foot through the village. Wear sturdy shoes since the approaches can be uneven, and check ahead for access times as this is an active religious site.

Heraldic symbols of local noble families are woven into the architecture, marking the families that shaped the mining region. These decorative elements serve as a record of who held power and influence in this small mountain community.
