The Church of Saint Nicholas is a house of worship featuring a tall bell tower and blending Gothic and Baroque architectural styles. The building displays characteristic elements from both periods and defines the village landscape.

Built in the early Gothic style, the church gained a presbytery at the end of the 13th century. Its first written mention dates from 1356; wall paintings and the sacristy were added in the mid-15th century. Repairs followed in 1568 and 1635, and after lightning struck the tower in 1695 it received its present Baroque form. Gothic wall paintings were uncovered in the presbytery in 1993.

The church is the parish church of the Roman Catholic parish of Ševětín and is listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Its tower, in its present Baroque form, appears in stylised form in the municipal coat of arms of Ševětín.

The church stands in the centre of Ševětín at coordinates 49.10016, 14.57320, as the parish church of the local Roman Catholic parish. Visitors should look for the three-storey bell turret above the junction of nave and presbytery, which is easy to miss from the street. The tower's stylised silhouette appears in Ševětín's municipal coat of arms, a detail visitors rarely connect with the church itself. The tower took its present Baroque form after lightning struck it in 1695.
