Věznice Světlá nad Sázavou, Gefängnis in Tschechien
Věznice Světlá nad Sázavou is a prison facility in the Czech Republic designed for women with varying security levels. The complex includes separate units for general inmates, those requiring enhanced supervision, and mothers with young children up to age three.
The grounds were completed in 1987 as a nature education school before being transferred to the prison service in 2000. The first group of women arrived in early 2000, and the program for mothers with children was established in 2002.
The facility is located in the northwestern part of the town of Světlá nad Sázavou in a rural setting. Visitors should plan ahead, as there are designated visiting areas with barriers, and family visits are possible under specific conditions.
This is the only facility in the Czech Republic where mothers are allowed to keep their young children with them during their sentences. The program enables women to maintain their maternal bonds while serving their time, which helps with reintegration after release.
