Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, Baroque church in Starý Knín, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in Starý Knín has a pale yellow facade divided by pilasters and a red tiled roof. A tower with a dark tiered cupola and spire rises on the left, and a smaller cupola with a cross sits on the roof ridge. Six tall arched windows with dark panes are set in decorative frames, three above and three below, with a single rectangular door centered below.

The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in Starý Knín is Gothic in origin, probably from the late 14th century; a Gothic window with tracery remains was uncovered in the nave's south wall during repairs in the 1950s. It was rebuilt in the 17th century and again around the mid-18th century, when most of the surviving furnishings were made. Later alterations were avoided, so the building kept a stylistically pure form.

Inside the nave, Renaissance tomb slabs of the Mitrovice and Hyršov families are set into the walls, and a tin baptismal font dated 1601 survives from the same period. The church is the main temple of the Roman Catholic parish of Starý Knín, and Václav Vratislav of Mitrovice lies buried beneath the presbytery floor.

The church stands beside the early Baroque two-winged parish house, adapted from the Vratislav of Mitrovice manor after the Thirty Years' War. The building sits on a low stone base, with the entrance door centred on the lower level of the facade. The interior is entered through this single rectangular door.

Under the presbytery floor is buried Václav Vratislav z Mitrovic, a member of the family that held the estate; Renaissance tomb slabs of the Mitrovic and Hyršov families are set into the nave walls. A tin baptismal font from 1601 also survives in the church.
