The Stone Bridge in Varvažov is an 18th-century road crossing built from stone with curved arches and solid construction techniques. It spans a small waterway and displays the building methods typical of its era.
The bridge was completed in 1781 during a period when infrastructure was expanding across the Czech lands. It represents the engineering knowledge and building practices of that era under Austrian rule.
The bridge carries road III/1219, and the boundary between the Varvažov and Smetanova Lhota cadastral areas runs through the middle of the river and the bridge itself. A niche chapel with a statue of St John of Nepomuk stands on the central pier, roofed with curved tiles.
The bridge is easily reached on foot or by car and provides a stable crossing over the stream. Visitors can use it as a clear landmark while exploring the area between the two settlements.
The bridge appeared in the 1956 film Nezlob, Kristino, directed by Vladimír Čech. A chamber closed by sheet-metal doors sits inside the right-bank abutment, and the central pier pushes a semicircular nose into the Skalice riverbed.
