Tramvajová štola pod Špilberkem, Underground tunnel system in Brno, Czech Republic.
Tramvajová štola pod Špilberkem is an abandoned underground tunnel beneath Špilberk hill in Brno. The passage stretches 510 meters and features a 3 by 3 meter corridor supported by metal struts with ventilation ducts running along the walls.
Construction began in 1978 to create an underground tram route connecting Pekařská Street with Joštova Street. Work stopped in 1979 before the project could be completed.
The tunnel represents an engineering attempt to modernize public transportation in Brno during the late 1970s through underground infrastructure development.
The entrance contains remnants of narrow-gauge railway components and construction debris scattered throughout. Inside, you can spot geological survey markers and concrete testing discs embedded in the tunnel floor.
Mineral deposits have naturally formed on the tunnel walls, creating sinter layers over time. Limestone-coated stones on the floor have developed into cave pearls through gradual mineral accumulation.
