Doubravka XIV., Observation tower in Prague, Czech Republic
Doubravka XIV is a wooden observation tower in Prague built with acacia timber and supporting legs that guide visitors up a staircase to a viewing platform. The structure rises above the surrounding landscape, offering views from its elevated position.
Construction began in 2017 and the tower opened to visitors in 2018, marking the first new observation structure built in Prague in decades. The project revived a tradition of public viewing points in the city.
People can have their names carved into the staircase steps, becoming part of the tower itself. This practice creates a personal connection to the structure, as each inscription marks a visitor's moment there.
Access is free year-round with no admission fees required. Wear comfortable shoes since climbing all the steps involves regular physical exertion.
The structure was assembled using four large cranes and later won an international wood design award. This recognition highlighted the innovative building approach and craftsmanship behind the project.
