Mšeno Reservoir, reservoir
The Mšeno Reservoir is a large body of water near the town of Mšeno nad Nisou, surrounded by forests and gentle hills. A substantial dam holds back the water, and its structure provides walking paths while the water offers space for boating and fishing activities.
The reservoir was built around 1911 to control water flow and supply the region with water. An underground tunnel called a gallery was completed around 2013 to divert excess water and protect the dam system.
The Mšeno Reservoir is a place where people spend time outdoors throughout the year. The water reflects the sky and surrounding forests, attracting visitors who seek quiet moments or outdoor activities. The reservoir shapes daily life for local residents and serves as an escape from everyday routines.
The area is easy to access with simple gravel or dirt paths running around the water. Visitors will find facilities like toilets, showers, and picnic areas nearby, especially at popular beach sections.
A large metal sculpture of a fishing rod stands on the dam crest as a tribute to the region's fishing tradition. This artwork was created by sculptor Vratislav K. Novak and is visible from a distance.
