Viadukt Křenová is a stone railway viaduct with six arches that connects two major railway stations in Brno-město. The structure features cast-iron columns and steel riveted beams that form a sturdy framework.
The viaduct was built between 1847 and 1848 by the Gebrüder Klein company as part of the Northern State Railway linking Brno to Česká Třebová. It was later expanded to accommodate additional railway connections in the region.
The cast-iron columns with acanthus capitals support steel riveted beams and reflect nineteenth-century industrial craftsmanship. These decorative elements remain visible today and show how engineering was valued as both functional and artistic.
The structure is located near the main railway station and is visible from various points around the city. You can view it from ground level or from nearby walkways to appreciate its construction and scale.
The viaduct was expanded from three to five tracks in 1870 to create a new connection between the Lower and Main stations. This expansion demonstrates how railway infrastructure quickly adapted to growing traffic demands.
