Yellow penguins, Environmental art installation at Kampa Park, Prague, Czech Republic
Yellow Penguins is a row of 34 bright yellow penguin sculptures positioned on a metal beam along the Vltava River. The installation forms a linear composition that stretches across the riverside, creating a clear visual presence in the urban landscape.
The Cracking Art Group from Milan created this installation in 2008 as part of their global series of urban art projects. The work was one of their early interventions in Central Europe and demonstrated their commitment to raising environmental awareness through art.
The sculptures highlight the contrast between wildlife and manufactured materials, showing how contemporary society views its environmental responsibility. When you walk among them, you notice they are made from everyday discarded items, which strengthens their message about what we use and waste.
The installation is free and accessible at any time, with the best views from the riverside path near Museum Kampa. Visit during daylight hours for the most striking visual experience of the yellow color against the water and surroundings.
Each penguin sculpture is made from discarded plastic bottles that have been given new purpose through this art project. This approach of transforming consumer waste directly illustrates the project's message about consumption and recycling in a concrete way.
