Lookout tower Na Štvanici, Observation tower in Staré Město, Czech Republic.
Lookout Tower Na Štvanici is a 35-meter observation structure made of steel and wood located on Štvanice Island. Its interior features a circular wooden staircase suspended from a central axis that leads to an open viewing platform.
The structure was completed in 2018, marking the first observation tower built in Prague in 70 years without such a project. This return ended a long gap in constructing similar buildings within the city.
The tower takes its name from Štvanice Island, where it stands as a landmark within Prague's river landscape. Its presence has become a point of reference for those exploring the city's outdoor spaces and enjoying views of the Vltava.
Climbing to the observation platform requires ascending 152 steps from the base. Protective glass panels surround the top platform, allowing safe viewing and providing shelter in various weather conditions.
The interior staircase hangs like a pendulum and acts as a counterbalance to wind forces, creating an innovative structural solution. This design reduces strain on the tower from natural wind movements.
