Bořeň is a phonolite mountain near Bílina with steep rock walls that resemble a resting lion when viewed from the northwest. The formation rises approximately 539 meters above sea level and stands out through its distinctive shape in the surrounding landscape.
The formation resulted from volcanic activity in the North Bohemian Basin millions of years ago. It has defined the natural and cultural landscape of the Bohemian region ever since.
