Lookout tower Máminka, Wooden observation tower on Krušná hora mountain, Czech Republic
Lookout tower Máminka is a wooden observation structure on Krušná hora mountain featuring a three-sided pyramid design with a circular oak staircase of 96 steps. The staircase leads to a viewing platform positioned at about 20.9 meters above ground.
The tower's location was formerly a military triangulation point and site of extensive iron ore mining from the 18th through 20th centuries. The region's mining heritage shaped its landscape long before this observation point was built.
The name Máminka means mother in Czech, given to the structure by a local resident who dedicated it to honor his mother in 2015. This personal story shapes how visitors experience the place as a tribute rooted in family affection.
The staircase is steep and requires reasonable fitness to climb all 96 steps comfortably. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and exercise caution in wet weather when the platform may become slippery.
The structure was built with deep-stained round larch logs protected by sheet metal, giving it a distinctly rustic character. A transparent PVC covering shields the viewing platform from rain while preserving unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape.
