Městské muzeum Loreta, Regional museum in Chlumec nad Cidlinou, Czech Republic

Městské muzeum Loreta occupies the former Loreta monastery in Chlumec nad Cidlinou, a building reconstructed by architect J. Zima and opened as a museum on 8 June 2002. Exhibits fill the ground floor and upper floor and also the open and glazed arcades of the cloister. The displays cover the town and its surroundings, mainly the 19th century.

A museum committee was formed in 1927, and the museum opened in the town hall on 28 October 1930. It moved to the first floor of the Karlova Koruna chateau's Theresian wing in 1951, later to the chateau orangery, and closed at the end of the 1980s. After the ruined former Loreta monastery was reconstructed to a design by architect J. Zima, the museum reopened there on 8 June 2002.

The ground floor holds rare wooden shooting targets painted by local marksmen, displayed since the 1930s in the town's first museum at the radnice. An exhibit recalls the peasant uprising of 1775, and upstairs a guild and crafts section covers Chlumec's trades, alongside a rural cottage room and a bourgeois interior from a century ago.

The museum is located on Kozelkova Street and mainly accepts cash payments. Groups of five or more people should arrange a visit in advance.

The museum building is a former Loreta monastery, a type named after the Santa Casa of Loreto. It stood devastated for decades before architect J. Zima's reconstruction, and the museum opened there on 8 June 2002. A related Loreto chapel in Chlumec nad Cidlinou is treated as a separate monument.
