Koňský rybník, Natural monument and protected area in Ostrov, Czech Republic

Koňský rybník is a protected natural site near Ostrov consisting of ponds and wetlands typical of northern Bohemia. The area provides habitat for waterfowl, amphibians, and wetland plants that depend on these water environments.

The site received official protected status in 2018 as part of the Czech Republic's nature conservation efforts. This designation helps safeguard the area's plant and animal life for future generations.

The name Koňský rybník, meaning Horse Pond, is used for the pond and the natural monument. Two marked educational trails pass the site: Borecké rybníky and Po starých cestách okolo Ostrova. A cycling route, Malé Rondo, runs along the pond's dam, and the Borecké rybníky pond system is heavily visited by walkers and cyclists from Ostrov.

The area is accessible year-round with marked trails and parking near the entrance. Spring and early summer are the best seasons to observe wildlife activity in the wetlands.

The water body supports rare plant communities adapted to wet conditions that are difficult to find elsewhere. These specialized plants shape the visual character of the site and demonstrate its ecological distinctiveness.
