Horní Jelení Castle

Horní Jelení Castle has an H-shaped structure set within expansive grounds featuring gardens, parks, and water features spread across hundreds of hectares. The layout forms a large landscape complex where buildings and outdoor spaces blend together.

The castle was founded in the second half of the 14th century as a Gothic fortress originally called De Lacu. It later underwent transformation into a Renaissance residence.

The castle served as a cultural meeting point where musical performances and artistic gatherings took place regularly in the 19th century. Rooms hosted musicians and visitors who came together to experience these events.

The castle is managed by the heritage authority and remains open to visitors even as ongoing restoration work continues. Be prepared for possible closed sections or work in progress in some areas.

A member of the Lobkowicz family turned the castle into a music center in the early 19th century and received dedications from world-renowned composers. This musical legacy still shapes how visitors experience the place.
