Wilsonova skála, Rock formation at Dalešice Reservoir, Czech Republic.
Wilsonova skála is a granite rock formation rising from Dalešice Reservoir, with its upper portion extending roughly 55 meters (180 feet) above the waterline. The formation continues beneath the surface with approximately 45 meters (150 feet) submerged.
Before Dalešice Reservoir was built in the 20th century, this rock stood approximately 100 meters (330 feet) tall as the highest formation in Jihlava Valley. The dam's construction submerged its lower sections and transformed the landscape.
A large wooden heart sculpture sits at the summit, installed by local residents in 2021 and has become a popular photo spot. This artwork marks the place as important to the community.
The viewpoint is accessible via a yellow-marked trail from Hartvíkovice village or directly from Wilsonka campsite, both routes being clearly marked. Plan to visit during daylight hours for safe hiking and the best views of the water and surrounding terrain.
The water level around this formation fluctuates roughly two meters daily as the Dalešice pumped-storage hydroelectric plant operates, making the rock appear different at various times of day. This tidal-like effect creates constantly changing views for photographers and visitors.
