Pekelský vodopád

Pekelský waterfall is a waterfall in Žežice where water drops 7 meters over dark basalt cliffs surrounded by thick forest. The chasm where the water falls is defined by the black rock formations that give the location its distinctive appearance.

The waterfall was shaped by natural erosion of basalt rock, a process that unfolded over thousands of years. Walking paths to the falls emerged only in recent decades as hiking became popular in the region.

The falls draw regular visitors who come to experience the power of water cascading over dark rock formations in a forested setting. The interaction between the flowing water and the black basalt creates a landscape that brings people back to this spot repeatedly.

The location is reachable via a marked yellow hiking trail that starts from Krásné Březno and passes through the forest. The path is easy to walk, though sturdy footwear is wise since the ground can be wet and slippery near the falls.

The water has carved vertical grooves into the black basalt rock over many years, which reflect light in surprising ways. These fine patterns are especially visible from the base of the chasm and show the constant power of the flowing water.
