Mlýn U Veselých

Mlýn U Veselých is a watermill in Choteč that holds fully preserved grinding machinery from the first half of the 20th century. The grain processing equipment still works, and a renovated small hydroelectric plant generates power for the building.

The mill has been run by the Veselý family since 1776, maintaining an unbroken tradition of grain processing across several generations. The different machines and equipment show how technology developed over time.

The mill organizes regular baking workshops where participants learn to make traditional Czech bread, Christmas bread, and Easter bread in original settings.

The mill shop is open on certain days of the week, so visitors should check beforehand when exactly they can visit. Flour is sold on site, with advance orders needed for larger quantities.

The building uses the flowing water from the stream not just for grinding grain but also for generating electricity, showing an unusual blend of old tradition and modern energy production. This dual use of water power is rare and makes the mill a special example of sustainable energy use.
