Most Pavla Wonky

Most Pavla Wonky is a road bridge crossing the Elbe River with a length of approximately 170 meters and a width of about 24 meters. The structure carries four traffic lanes in the middle while providing separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians on each side.

The bridge opened in 1960 and was initially named to reflect the political conditions of that era. In 1990, following the end of communist rule, it received its current name.

The bridge represents a transition period in Czech history, as its renaming in 1990 marked the shift from Soviet influence to democratic values.

The bridge is an active transportation link that operates throughout the year and is regularly maintained. Those crossing on foot or by bicycle should use the designated paths, which are especially important during rush hours when vehicle traffic is heaviest.

The internal structure features three chambers reinforced by over 700 prestressing cables, showcasing 1950s engineering methods. This construction approach was an innovative solution for long river crossings at that time.
