Větrný mlýn v Krchlebech u Nymburka, Dutch-style windmill in Krchleby, Czech Republic
The windmill in Krchleby is a circular stone structure topped with red clay tiles on a rotating conical roof, standing about 12 meters tall and roughly 6.5 meters across. Inside, three floors contain exhibition spaces and period rooms that visitors can explore.
The structure was built between 2012 and 2014 using 40000 recycled bricks salvaged from demolished regional buildings. This approach combined contemporary construction with historical craft traditions and local materials.
The interior displays how millers once lived, with period furnishings and everyday objects from their homes on multiple levels. The rooms show crafts and professions that have largely disappeared from modern life.
To visit, you should contact the caretaker in advance to arrange a time that works for viewing the interior. Access is by appointment only, as this is a private property.
The stone walls feature decorative sandstone carvings showing millers and guild symbols that reference the proud craft heritage. A metal rooster weather vane and a Don Quixote figure crown these architectural details.
