Construction of the facility took place between 1952 and 1954 with an initial 50-meter tower. The installation was occupied by Soviet soldiers in August 1968, a defining moment in its operational history.
From 1954 to 1964, the station transmitted radio signals while simultaneously functioning as a signal interference point for western radio broadcasts.
