Thun-Hohenstein Vault in Děčín-Chrást, Family tomb in Děčín-Chrást, Czech Republic
The Thun-Hohenstein Vault is a family burial chamber housed within the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk in Děčín-Chrást, constructed in neo-Gothic style with finely carved stone elements throughout. The interior features detailed architectural ornamentation characteristic of the period.
The vault was built between 1870 and 1872 according to Friedrich Schmidt's design plans. It replaced an older Baroque chapel that had functioned as a pilgrimage destination since 1723.
The chapel displays religious artworks created by Josef Fischer, featuring statues of the Fourteen Helpers and virtues. These pieces reflect artistic traditions rooted in the Litoměřice region.
The chapel is open to visitors through guided tours running from July to September, with access available between 1 PM and 4 PM. It is advisable to confirm tour availability before planning your visit.
Following damage sustained after World War II, the remains of 31 family members were cremated and moved to a different location. This relocation was done to preserve what remained of the burial chamber's contents.
