Louky u Drahlína, Natural monument near Drahlín, Czech Republic.
Louky u Drahlína is a protected natural site consisting of two separate meadows positioned at the edges of Drahlín village. The meadows span roughly 13 hectares across elevations ranging from 509 to 581 meters, with marked pathways allowing visitors to explore open grassland habitats.
These meadows were historically maintained through regular mowing and cattle grazing, which preserved their ecological balance over generations. When heavy agricultural machinery became common, this traditional land management ceased, leading to the site's protection as a natural monument.
The meadows contribute to scientific research and educational activities focused on studying local biodiversity and ecological systems in the Central Bohemian Region.
The site is accessible on foot with marked trails easy to follow throughout the area. Spring through early autumn offers the best time to visit when vegetation is lush and wildlife is most active, though sturdy footwear is recommended since paths can become muddy.
The meadows harbor two rare butterfly species that depend on specialized wild plants for their survival and reproduction. These delicate insects have become increasingly scarce across Central Europe, making this location an important refuge for their continued existence.
