Gen. John Stark House
Gen. John Stark House, Historical house museum in Manchester, United States.
The Gen. John Stark House is a single-story Cape style farmhouse featuring a central chimney and separate parlor rooms connected by a narrow vestibule. The building demonstrates typical colonial-era residential design with practical, tightly organized interior spaces.
Built in 1736, the house later served as the residence of Revolutionary War General John Stark and remained important to his family's story. It represents an ordinary home that became connected to American military history during the fight for independence.
The Daughters of the American Revolution maintain this house and offer visitors a look at how families lived during the early American period. Period furnishings and household objects remain on display to show daily routines from that era.
The house is located on Elm Street and only accepts cash for visits. It is important to confirm opening hours ahead of time, as they may be limited.
The structure was relocated in 1968 to its current location while maintaining a connection to the original Stark family estate. This makes it an unusual example of a colonial house that preserved its historical roots despite being moved.
