This All Happened More or Less, Public art installation along Southeast Division Street in Portland, United States
This All Happened More or Less consists of eight bronze statues mounted on dolomite boulders along Southeast Division Street between 11th and 36th Avenues in Portland. The figures depict various everyday scenes and are positioned among bioswales and neighborhood shops.
The installation was created in 2014 by artists Crystal Schenk and Shelby Davis and was recognized by Americans for the Arts as one of 31 notable public art projects. This recognition established it as a significant contemporary public artwork.
The bronze figures capture people in everyday moments, from children on skateboards to commuters waiting for buses or sitting with pets. They reflect how the neighborhood's residents move through and use public space.
The installation spans several blocks and is best explored on foot as you walk along the street. There are no formal hours or admission fees, and each figure is easily visible from the sidewalk.
The title references the opening line of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five, linking literature directly to street art. This literary connection adds a layer of meaning that rewards visitors who recognize the reference.
