Killer Heels, Fashion exhibition at The Frick Pittsburgh, US
Killer Heels is an exhibition featuring around 160 shoes from different eras and by renowned designers including Balenciaga, Manolo Blahnik, Chanel, and Christian Dior. The collection spans both historical pieces and contemporary creations that demonstrate how high-heeled shoes have evolved in design and meaning.
The exhibition debuted in fall 2014 at the Brooklyn Museum and subsequently traveled to multiple venues across the United States. This traveling show made the shoe collection available to audiences in different regions of the country.
The exhibition shows how high-heeled shoes have served as tools for self-expression, power display, and artistic creation across different time periods. Visitors can observe how these shoes were worn in various social and professional contexts and what they meant to those who wore them.
Entry to the exhibition is free, making it an accessible option for everyone. In addition to viewing the shoes, visitors can watch six short films about high-heeled shoe culture that are shown on site.
Among the pieces on display are designs by architect Zaha Hadid and designer Rem Koolhaas, who integrated architectural principles into their high-heeled shoe designs. These collaborations show how designers from other fields brought fresh and unexpected perspectives to the form and function of high heels.
