Edmundson Park Historic District, New Deal era park district in Oskaloosa, United States.
Edmundson Park Historic District is a park covering about 56 acres in Oskaloosa with over 50 historic resources including buildings, structures, and objects set within a natural landscape. The grounds sit at the intersection of 11th Avenue West and Edmundson Drive and offer different areas to explore.
The grounds were built between 1936 and 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, a Depression-era program. Funding came from a bequest left by attorney James Depew Edmundson.
The district features rustic structures designed by landscape architect Ray F. Wyrick that shape how the place looks and feels today. You can see this design approach throughout the grounds when you walk around.
The park is easy to access and offers pathways to explore the historic structures and surrounding grounds. Comfortable walking shoes are helpful since you will be on foot to see the different areas.
The grounds contain a collection of 52 historic objects from different categories, including rare items from the 1930s. This variety makes it an especially valuable example of Depression-era public works.
