Lake Manawa State Park

Lake Manawa State Park is a large nature preserve in Council Bluffs with a natural lake, hiking trails, and various recreational facilities. The body of water formed naturally and is now used by visitors for fishing, boating, and waterside relaxation.

The lake formed in 1881 when flooding changed the course of the Missouri River and created a crescent-shaped bend. This natural event led the area to develop later as a recreation zone.

The name Manawa comes from Native American language and means peace and comfort, reflecting the deep connection between this place and its original inhabitants.

The park has camping areas with basic amenities and several boat launch sites for different water activities. Visitors should bring seasonal clothing and explore the paths before arriving to choose the best route for their activities.

The Dream Playground is one of the largest accessible play areas in the region and offers play opportunities for children of all physical abilities. This facility makes the park a special destination for families with different needs.
