The National Zoo of Malaysia is a wildlife park in Ulu Kelang, Malaysia, covering 110 acres with separate zones for mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and aquatic animals. The grounds feature naturalistic enclosures with shaded walkways and water features housing species from different global regions.
The Malaysian Zoological Society founded this first national zoo in 1963 after a small animal exhibition by the Malayan Agri-Horticultural Association proved successful. The institution moved several times before settling at its current Ulu Kelang site.
The Giant Panda Conservation Centre houses Xing Xing and Liang Liang, living symbols of cooperation between Malaysia and China in animal preservation. Visitors can observe the pair in a climate-controlled environment designed to replicate their natural habitat.
Wheelchair-accessible paths run through the entire facility, allowing visitors with limited mobility to reach most areas. Guided tours are available on weekends and provide additional information about the animals and their habitats.
Over 200 endangered milky storks have been successfully bred here, helping to save this Southeast Asian species. The breeding program is considered one of the most successful in the region and supports reintroduction projects in several countries.
