Crocker Range National Park, National park in Sabah, Malaysia.
Crocker Range National Park is a protected area in the interior of Sabah, Malaysia, covering a chain of forested mountains. The park has a visitor center with an insectarium, a fern collection, dormitories, rest houses, and campsites for overnight stays.
The Malaysian government designated this area as a national park in 1984, following its earlier status as a forest reserve. That decision made it the largest protected area in Sabah, giving the mountain forests long-term legal protection.
The Salt Trail is an old trading path that local communities once used to carry salt and goods across the mountains between villages. Walking it today means following the same routes that have connected people in this region for generations.
The drier months are the best time to visit, as trails are easier to walk and conditions are more manageable. Bringing a local guide is a good idea for navigating the paths safely and getting more out of the forest environment.
The Padas River, which runs through the park area, is one of the few places in Sabah where white water rafting is possible. This gives visitors a way to experience the forest from the water rather than from a trail.
