Mount Nuang, Mountain summit in Hulu Langat district, Malaysia.
Mount Nuang is the highest summit in Hulu Langat district, Malaysia, sitting within the Titiwangsa Mountain Range at around 1,500 meters above sea level. The trail runs through thick rainforest and crosses several rivers before the ground rises sharply toward the top.
The first paths up the mountain were made by people from the nearby village of Pangsoon, which has served as a starting point for generations. Those early tracks shaped the routes that hikers still follow today.
Hikers from the region come on weekends and often stay overnight along the trail to reach the top at dawn. This shared experience makes the mountain a place where people return again and again, as much for the company as for the climb.
The climb generally takes around 5 to 6 hours, and the trail has several rest stops along the way plus two basic overnight shelters for those who want to break the hike into two days. Starting at first light gives you the best chance of finishing before dark.
The trail runs along the border between the states of Selangor and Pahang, and the five river crossings on stepping stones are often where hikers notice they have passed from one state into the other. For many, those crossings stand out as the most memorable part of the whole route.
