Miri-Sibuti Coral Reef National Park, Marine national park off the coast of Miri, Malaysia.
Miri-Sibuti Coral Reef National Park is a marine protected area off Miri's coast with reefs that exist at depths ranging from 7 to 50 meters. The underwater landscape features coral formations, gardens of anemones and sea fans, and diverse fish communities.
The park was established in 2007 by the Sarawak government to protect coral reef systems along the northern coast from overuse. Creating this marine protected area was a key step to preserve the ecosystem for future generations.
Local fishermen and boat guides work here daily, bringing visitors out to the reefs and maintaining a strong connection to the sea. This working relationship shows how marine life shapes the everyday economy of the region.
Visitors reach the park by boat from Miri, with the best time for diving and snorkeling falling between March and November when seas are calmer. It helps to start early in the morning and hire a local boat guide who knows the best sites and conditions.
Individual dive sites like Anemone Garden and Seafan Garden showcase specialized habitats where Napoleon wrasse and various shark species swim among coral. These sites are named for the organisms that dominate the visual character of each location.
