Lake Koman

Lake Koman is a hydroelectric reservoir in northern Albania's limestone canyons, spreading across a large area between steep mountain walls. The water body reaches considerable depths and is fed by multiple rivers that create deep channels between vertical cliff faces.

The Koman Dam was built between 1979 and 1988, creating this reservoir and fundamentally changing the local landscape. This development opened new transportation routes and later enabled connections between remote mountain communities.

Local communities maintain traditional fishing practices, and small boat operators connect isolated mountain villages along the water. These connections form an important part of daily life for people living in these remote areas.

The ferry service between Koman and Fierza runs regularly through narrow mountain passages, and the journey takes several hours. Plan accordingly and be prepared for changing weather conditions in the mountains.

Three major rivers flow into this reservoir, creating a complex network of waterways between the vertical cliff walls. This natural configuration makes each boat journey follow different routes through distinctly shaped canyons.
