Mupa National Park

The protected area extends across 6,600 square kilometers between the Colui River and Cunene River, featuring hills and mosaic forest-savanna landscapes.

The territory transformed from a hunting reserve in April 1938 to receive national park status in December 1964 under Portuguese administration.

The park contains 18,000 inhabitants who maintain traditional agricultural practices and cattle breeding activities within the protected boundaries.

Visitors require permits and local guides to explore the park, with May through October offering the most favorable conditions for wildlife observation.

The park originally intended to protect the Angolan giraffe subspecies, but records indicate their complete disappearance from the area by 1974.
