Frigorífico Bories

Frigorífico Bories is a former meat processing facility in Patagonia built with multiple red brick buildings, metal roofs, and large windows arranged in geometric patterns. The complex displays an organized industrial structure designed for meat processing and refrigeration operations.

The facility opened in 1914 and processed meat from local sheep ranches until 1992. It marks a turning point in the industrial development of the Magallanes region.

The buildings show European architecture brought by settlers in the early 1900s to this remote region. Walking through the spaces reveals how the design reflects the working conditions and daily rhythms of that industrial era.

The site is open year-round with uneven ground between older buildings. Wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore the sprawling complex at a leisurely pace.

The grounds preserve original equipment from the 1910s, including freezing chambers and transport systems built for processing sheep products. These machines show how advanced refrigeration technology was for its time.
