Puyehue Hot Springs, Hot springs in Los Lagos Region, Chile
Puyehue Hot Springs is a thermal resort inside Puyehue National Park, in the Los Lagos Region of southern Chile. It has several mineral water sources and both indoor and outdoor pools, all surrounded by native forest.
The site began to be developed in the early 20th century when Conrado Hubach formed a group of investors to build facilities around the springs. By 1910, a large hotel had been completed, establishing the resort as a destination.
The springs hold meaning in Mapuche traditions, where mineral waters were valued for healing. Visitors today experience this legacy through the way the thermal baths are used for wellness and restoration.
The resort sits east of Osorno and requires your own vehicle or organized transport to reach, as there is no direct public service. Leaving time to walk through the surrounding national park trails makes the trip more rewarding.
In the early years, guests arrived at the resort by steamboat across Puyehue Lake, because no road reached the site at the time. That boat crossing was considered part of the welcome experience and not just a way to get there.
