Anakena

Anakena is a white sand beach on Easter Island with turquoise waters and palm trees creating a tropical setting along the coast. The bay is framed by restored stone platforms and statues that line the shoreline and give the place its distinctive character.

According to Rapa Nui tradition, the legendary leader Hotu Matua landed here and established the island's first settlement. This early colonization marked the beginning of an independent civilization on the remote Pacific island.

The beach holds deep spiritual significance for Rapa Nui people as the legendary landing place of their ancestors and the birthplace of their civilization. This sacred connection remains visible in how locals and visitors alike speak of the place with reverence.

The beach is about 20 kilometers from Hanga Roa town and can be reached by rental car, organized tours, or bicycle without difficulty. It is best visited during daylight hours to enjoy the natural light and see the stone structures clearly.

The sand here contains small fragments of coral and shells, giving it a fine, grainy texture that feels different underfoot. This composition sets it apart from the dark volcanic beaches found elsewhere on the island.
