Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport, International airport in Pudahuel, Chile
Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport is the main international airport in Pudahuel, near Santiago, Chile. The facility consists of two large terminals connected by parking structures, with a combined total of 76 passenger boarding bridges.
The facility opened on February 2, 1967, as Pudahuel International Airport. It received its current name in 1980 in honor of the general who created the Chilean Air Force.
The name honors a general who founded the Chilean Air Force, and visitors see the logos of the country's major carriers displayed throughout both buildings. The terminals show modern architecture with long corridors and high ceilings that allow natural light to enter.
The location sits around 15 kilometers northwest of Santiago and offers direct access to expressways, taxis, shuttle buses, and several car rental companies. Both terminals are connected through covered areas, making it easy to move between them even in bad weather.
The second terminal opened in 2022 and expanded capacity significantly, allowing more long-haul flights to operate simultaneously. The facility can now receive and handle the world's largest passenger aircraft.
